BAKERSFIELD,
CALIFORNIA (March 27, 2012)
– 2012 NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West championship contender Derek
Thorn has announced he will return to the SRL SPEARS Southwest Tour
full-time this season as well, driving a #43 Four Star Fruit Ford/Hronis
Racing Ford for Campbell Motorsports. Thorn won seven consecutive
poles and three races on the tour in 2011 en route to third in the
points standings.
Thorn will be reunited with car owner Byron Campbell who he drove
for in three NASCAR K&N races in 2011 including a pole at the TOYOTA
All-Star Showdown, third place finish at Phoenix, and a second place
finish at Irwindale.
"Byron Campbell Motorsports, Four Star Fruit, and Hronis Racing have
been huge supporters of my racing career and I can't thank them
enough," Thorn said. "We have had a lot of success already in the
West Series and in Late Models. Mike Keen, Dan Smith, and the
entire crew have been working long hours to get the cars ready and
Stockton is going to be a great kick off to our season!"
A busy 2012 slate sees Thorn scheduled for 26 races between his
NASCAR K&N duties for Bob Bruncati's Sunrise Ford team and Byron
Campbell’s SRL program. Thorn is also scheduled to return to the
Snowball Derby in Pensacola, Florida this December.
The 2012 campaign will give Thorn a great shot at a championship
with crew chief Mike Keen on the wrenches for the Hronis
Racing-sponsored entry. Additional support will come from long time
Thorn supporter PepperJack Kennels and Joes Racing Products.
There are 10 races on the 2012 SRL schedule with the season opener
coming up this Saturday at Stockton 99 Speedway in Stockton, Calif.
The series will visit Roseville, Las Vegas, Madera, and Salt Lake
City as well throughout the year. Thorn had two poles and a best
finish of fourth in two starts at Stockton last year and is looking
for a strong run to jump start the 2012 season.
Thorn is also registered for the Sunoco Driven Challenge where his
2012 results will count towards a possible test with Joe Gibbs
Racing in their NASCAR K&N Pro Series, East equipment. Another
great opportunity will be the "Road to the All American 400". The
winner of the May 12th SRL Southwest Tour race at Las Vegas will be
locked into the "All American 400" at Nashville Fairgrounds in
October.
Derek Thorn would like to thank the following sponsors for their
support in 2012: Four Star Fruit, Hronis Racing, Sunrise Ford, Lucas
Oil, Eibach Springs, Joe’s Racing Products, Oakley, and PepperJack
Kennels.
