ROSEVILLE,
CA– Lakeport's Derek Thorn is ready to return to the
seat of two different stock cars in two different series this
Saturday in
Roseville, California. Thorn will return to the SPEARS SRL Southwest
Tour Series to compete in the Thunder Valley Casino & Resort 135 as
well as the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West for the NAPA Auto Parts 150
at the All American Speedway.
Thorn will return
to the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series for the ninth leg of the ten
scheduled events in the 2011 season driving the Superior Crankshaft/JRI
Shocks #26 Toyota Camry led by crew chief Scott Franchimone for
Joiner Race Cars. For Thorn, All American Speedway is a track of
success in the SRL Tour. The 25-year-old driver dominated the spring
event in his Joe Farre/Jr. Joiner owned JRC machine as he raced his
way to the lead early in the race and defended his position by a
distance within lapped traffic on the tight banked oval at the
Placer County Fairgrounds.
As he returns to
Roseville,
Thorn will look for win number three coming off of his second place
finish in Madera just a few weeks ago and a well needed strong
points day. He is currently fourth in the tight championship point
standings with just two races left on the competitive campaign that
competes throughout California, Utah and Nevada. The twin bill this
coming weekend will require a great deal of focus for Thorn as he
will be looking for the win in both of the venues that are coming to
entertain another sold out crowd at the always exciting All American
Speedway.
While the SPEARS
SRL Southwest Tour event will be an important venue for Thorn, he
will also be competing in the premier division of the Roseville
event, the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West that will be returning to
Roseville for the NAPA Auto Parts 150.
Thorn will be
making his second start of the season behind the wheel of the
Sunrise Ford Racing #9 Eibach Spring/Lucas Oil Ford fielded by
veteran car owner Bob Bruncati and led by crewchief Andy Santerre.
Following an impressive third place run on his first ever road
course in Portland with the team and a recent successful tests
session at the speedway Thorn and the Sunrise Ford team are looking
to be a contender for the win in Saturday’s event.
Saturday's event
will mark the first oval track venue that Thorn and Bruncati will
compete in together. Thorn has already had great success in the
NASCAR West tour. He made a valiant run back in January when he
started on the pole of the NASCAR Toyota All Star Race in Irwindale,
Thorn then had successful runs at both Phoenix and Portland with a
pair of third place finishes and almost had the win at Irwindale in
July with an impressive second place showing.
When the NASCAR
K&N Pro Series West comes to the tight All American Speedway lapped
traffic is always a factor as the fast paced full size NASCAR
machines bump and grind their way through the field.
Thorn is a driver
that is known for great talent when it comes to racing in traffic.
With success already at Roseville this season in the SRL series,
combined with his success at Irwindale, Phoenix and most recently in
Portland with Bruncati, Thorn is a driver that is poised to possibly
walk out of the All American Speedway with victory’s in both the SRL
Series and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West.
Derek Thorn is
proud to carry the sponsorship of Superior Crankshaft and a number
of marketing partners in the 2011 SRL Spears Southwest Tour. Among
the many contributors are Joiner Race Cars, Sigma Engineering, JRI
Shocks, Eibach Springs, Joe's Racing Products, ARP Bodies,
Finishline Signs, PepperJack Kennels, Fastenal and Joiner
Motorsports.
The pit gates will
open 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at All American Speedway. After practice
sessions and qualifying, The Thunder Valley Casino & Resort 135
presented by Ameripride Uniform Service will take the green flag at
6:55 and will be followed by the NAPA Auto Parts 150 for the NASCAR
K&N Pro Series West.
